The First Aid at Work (initial) qualifying course is delivered over 24 contact training hours and includes an independent assessment covering both theory and practice before completion.
Students will be taught and assessed in both primary (reactive) and secondary (proactive) care skills, treatment of workplace medical emergencies and basic health and safety regulations.
This course will reduce to 18 contact hours (3 days) from Oct 2009.
To help you to decide whether this course, or the new Health and Safety qualification of, Emergency First Aider at Work is required, your risk assessment will need to be reviewed.
The HSE risk assessment table which currently shows low, medium and high risk versus numbers of staff at work at one time, versus spread of sites, will be replaced by a "Hazard" assessment, by October 2009.
If you wish to discuss the the changes, and what they will mean to your business, please call 01862 842684 OR 0782 444 9011 or email mark.harris@rubiconfirstaid.com for a no obligation chat.
Remember you may need to train staff on specific first aid courses instead of / or as well as, First Aid at Work (FAW), or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), or nominated Appointed Person.
Some examples would be:
Note:
(Paediatric courses have no adult first aid content now, and cannot meet health and safety at work requirements. These requirements are in place for the staff, not the infants or children).
In reality you will probably not need to train more people (so do not panic at the cost), but rather better target your staff. Think carefully about who goes on what course so all aspects of work are covered.
