Caring for someone when remote from definitive medical care requires personal and group skills that are far above that required in other work-based first aid courses. You do not have to learn lots of extra technical skills, but you need to be open minded, innocative, flexible and creative in the application of basic skills. Wilderness first aid is the ultimate in problem solving exercises.
The ability to work together, respond to effective leadership and achieve significant results are all key skills that we require of our teams. Where the lack of such cohesion could have potentially dangerous consequences for all the team these skills become event more critical.
This course will test you - it involves practical exercises both indoors and outdoors, and will include an outdoor exercise at night-time. It is more than first aid. We will look at improvisation in the use of a variety of pieces of outdoor equipment, including making shelters, all with the limited availability of supplies.
Candidates do not need any first aid background, and we are not turning out paramedics or expedition medics!! However, you should recognise that this is an active, hands-on course which will include the recording and debriefing of practical exercises, using trained acting casualties.
The course can be tailored more to meet your individual needs based on the premises of your choice or at our selected venues.
There are currently no available dates for Personal & Team Development Through Wilderness First Aid. If you would like more information on this course or to be kept informed of future courses please contact us.
