Changes to first aid at work courses from 01 Oct 2009.

Are you aware of, and ready for the changes to first aid training, and the guidance on first aid risk assessment that comes into effect on 01 Oct 2009. If not, please call, or email for your no obligation explanation of the changes.
Further details will be posted here in due course, or visit the Health and Safety Executive web site www.hse.gov.uk/firstaid/index.htm (or select First Aid at work from the Topics Drop Down Box on the HSE homepage) to see the latest news.

There will be a new qualification and legal status of Emergency First Aider at Work to go alongside the current full first aider at work qualification and status. The Appointed Person status remains and although training is recommended by the HSE it is not mandatory. Appointed Person training is not monitored or regulated by the HSE. The Emergency First Aider at Work will be 6 contact hours and will follow a syllabus outlined by the HSE in conjunction with the Qualification Curriculum Authority and the Scottish Qualification Authority.

The full first aider at work course will be reduced from 24 contact hours to 18 contact hours although some providers are still going to continue offering 24 contact hours as an option.

A new type of first aid needs assessment will be required to identify which type of first aid training an organisation or employer should provide for their employees, whether paid or voluntary. For full details of this needs assessment and what is covered on the different courses/qualifications please see our first aid risk assessment section and downloads section of the website. Details will be posted here as soon as we have them.
